I travelled from Maribor through Austria to Stuttgart in Germany to
meet up with my friend Marit. Luckily - she had some days off work
and I was very fortunate to be shown some of the best places in the
area.
Above - It was a wet day in Baden-Württemberg - so we first visited
a few limestone caves. This one is Die Karls ind Bärenhöhle (Charles
and Bears Cave)
Above - One of the bears found in the cave
Above - We next visited the Nebelhöhle (Fog Cave) - a few kilometres
away.
We spent about an hour in each cave - they were both very beautiful
and interesting.
Above - Outside the second cave we spotted these nice Lawyers Wig
Inkcaps (or Shaggy Inkcaps) - Coprinus comatus
Above - We next visit the Schloss Lichtenstein Castle
Above - We next visited the old city of Tübingen
Above - on top of the hill at the old city was a castle
Above - Looking down at the Neckar River
Above - The museum at the castle has in its collection many very
early pieces of art. This horse - sculptured from the ivory of a
mammoth's tusk is about 35,000 years old. We saw the original - and
it is quite amazing in its detail. It is only about 4 cm long. The
original was found in a local limestone cave.
Above - The next day we do the Seven Mills Walk - past a series of
very old mills. We ended up at the Ritter Sports Chocolate Factory.
Above - Back on the track
Above - Waldenbuch - where we visit the chocolate factory and the
old town
Above - Bodensee - a lake on the border with Switzerland. Marit had
organised a very nice bike ride around part of the lake.
Above - Coffee and lunch at Lindau - a city on an Island at
Bodensee.
Above - Lindau
Above - We climb a tower to get good views of the lake
Above - There are many Zeppelins overhead.
Above - On the way back to Stuttgart, we stop at Ulm for dinner.
Here is the gothic cathedral.
Above - Albert Einstein was born in Ulm. Is this his house?
Above - The next day we visit the Black Forest. Here we are at the
Schwarzwald-Modellbahn - an amazing model railway.
Above - Amazing detail - here is a road accident
Above - We timed a train from one section of the track - and it took
about 25 minutes to go about half way round a very big loop.
Above - The Black Forest - the home of cuckoo clocks
Above - We next visit some waterfalls at Triberg
Above - And then we have some black forest cake
Above - We visit this old town on the way home
Above - I spent my last day at Stuttgart in the city
Next day I travelled by train to Freising,
near Munich to meet up with Tina and Kim.
