I went from Queenstown via Greymouth to Arthurs Pass by two buses.
Greymouth was a nice city that I had not visited before and is the home
of the famous Monteiths Brewery. At Arthurs Pass - I camped in the DOC
camping ground near the visitor centre. I was intending to go up one of
the nearby valleys for a couple of days - but the weather forecast was
not too good and the rangers at the visitor centre advised againt this
- so I ended up doing daytrips. This was quite worthwhile.
While at Arthurs Pass - 3 girls arrived - Lani, Bronwen and Helen - trampers. I knew Lani when she was earlier in Sydney.
They were on the Mana Wahine Walk
- and they were walking from one end of the South Island to the other -
doing a "Southern Traverse". Having started from the south - they were
well on their way of completing their 3 month walk. This was great
effort - and I wish them the best for the rest of their adventure.
