Day 7
Above - Inside the kitchen of Bert Nichols Hut. This huge room was the
only one with a heater (pot belly stove) - and it was hard to warm up.
The bunk rooms were like fridges so we slept in the kitchen (like most
other walkers seemed to do according to the logbook). The skylights
leaked. The outer part of the hut (drying rooms) had windows with
flyscreens and no glass - but the screens had been ripped open by
possums - who seemed to have free reign of the hut. The purpose of the
"artwork" in the kitchen was not clear to me.....
Col left us at this point - and walked to Narcissus and then to Cynthia
Bay. He is a musician and had a gig on in a few days time that he was
keen not to miss.
