In the afternoon, I spent a few hours at Barton Park and stayed at Landing Lights Wetland the whole time. There were some good birds to observe. At the wetlands, the water level has been dropping recently, and these make good conditions for Dotterels to turn up and forage on the exposed mudflats. I spotted two Black-fronted Dotterels during my visit. I also had a very good encounter with one of the Australian Spotted Crakes.
Here are some of the birds I was able to photograph –
New Holland Honeyeater
White-faced Heron
Royal Spoonbill
Silvereye
This Grey Fantail was hunting for insects –
From the ground, you cannot see the insects.
Little Egret
New Holland Honeyeater
Black-fronted Dotterels
Pied Stilts
Little Egret
Great Egret
Royal Spoonbill
Australian Spotted Crake
I watched quietly while the Crake foraged on the mudflat. It was visible for about 5 minutes.
