Aboriginal Art near the Putty Road – 2 September 2025

Bob and myself had been investigating some Aboriginal art sites near the Putty Road. I had visited a very good site back in 2017 and was keen to see it again. So we visited that site first, then visited a number of other sites.

The first site is very impressive with a wide range of art.

As you approach the cave, it does not look too special.

Here is Bob in the cave –

Most of the art is one the roof, and is mainly in white ochre –

There are plenty of hand stencils, stencils of boomerangs, bull roarers, clap sticks and stone axes. Very impressive.

At a lower level are some charcoal motifs –

Some of the art looks very old –

Now for some enhancement with iDStretch –

In the photos below, you can see some red ochre hand stencils in the enhanced version.

Also in the cave are a number of sharpening grooves –

We then left that cave and headed out to a second site.

The second site was a small overhang –

It features some very faint white motifs –

iDStretching helps a bit –

In the above photo, I think I can discern a faint white ochre hand stencil just below the vertical white line.

Look also in the photo below, which is a closer view –

The white motifs in the middle and left are probably human figures.

We then headed to a third site, another small overhang.

We only found one charcoal motif in this cave –

We plan to return and look for more art sites.
