I took part in the bird survey along the Hawthorne Canal section of The Greenway. As usual the group meets at 7:30 am at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station.
We had an interesting survey. Spring is in the air and birds are starting to build nests.

Near Marion Street, we spotted a pair of juvenile Little Herons. Here is one of them –

Further along, we looked up in the trees and spotted a White Faced Heron sitting on a nest. This was close to where these birds nested last season.

And this White Faced Heron was in the dog park, and was being harassed by Noisy Miners.
In a bush care area, we observed a male Brush Turkey tending to its mound. Two female Brush Turkeys were nearby.
At one point, the male dived deep into a hole. Was it checking the temperature?
After the survey, we had coffee at the cafe in the dog park. Then I walked back along the Greenway home, with Simin, one of the group. So more photos –

At Radical Reserve, Simin spotted a Tawny Frogmouth sitting on a nest –

Further along the Greenway, in a nearby street, I spotted a pair of Tawny Frogmouths. One was sitting on a nest.
