It was nice to join Brian Everingham and others from the National Parks Association for a walk in Royal National Park. Brian, the leader, had advertised the walk as a photographic walk – with fungi and orchids as the subjects – and we certainly did well with both.
Sue and myself, got a lift from Heathcote to the start with Brian and on the way down, we stopped off at the lower end of the Couranga Track to looks for orchids. Brain soon spotted two species –
Spurred Helmut Orchid – Corybas aconitiflorus
Nodding Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis nutans
That was a great start! We then headed to the south end of Lady Carrington Drive where we met the other walkers. Not far along, we spotted some of the nice fungi I had seen a few days earlier.
Hygrocybe aurantipes
Gliophorus graminicolor
Gliophorus psittacinus group and Trichoglossum hirsutum
Hygrocybe helicoides
Hygrophorus involutus
The next lot of fungi where seen along the Forest Path –
These could be Hygrocybe iropus –
The colours and gills are correct for Hygrocybe iropus, but the caps don’t seem to be conical enough.
Hygrocybe anomala var. anomala
Hygrocybe sp.
Earth Tongues – Trichoglossum hirsutum
Clavulinopsis fusiformis
I think this is likely to be Clavulinopsis amoena –
Hymenoscyphus sp.
Part way around, we stopped for lunch.
Now for some more orchids –
Common Leafy Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis longifolia
Cobra Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis grandiflora
Common Leafy Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis longifolia
Nodding Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis nutans
Pixie Caps Orchid – Acianthus fornicatus
Toothed Helmut Orchid – Corybas pruinosus
Fringed Helmut Orchid – Corybas fimbriatus
Toothed Helmut Orchid – Corybas pruinosus
That was the end of the walk.
Brian was keen to see some more orchids. And when he dropped us off at Engadine Station, we all went over to the east side of the station and searched a short way in the National Park for some more Corybas Orchids. After a bit of effort, Brian spotted them.
Small Helmut Orchid – Corybas unguiculatus
