Malabar Headland – 8 November 2022

I spent an amazing afternoon out on Malabar Headland. The resident family of Peregrine Falcons put on an incredible display of flying and was a privilege to witness this. I met Sue at Maroubra Beach and we walked out to near Boora Point. We later met up with Ian, the visiting Peregrine Falcon photographer from South Australia.

Later in the afternoon more bird photographers arrived including Shane, Roscoe and Sol.

Anyway, here are some of my photos which record the bird’s incredible speed and their interesting behaviour.

Here is one of the juveniles flying along the cliffs –

One of the parents arrives with food.

Then a mid air food exchange takes place.

Then a second mid air food exchange for the other juvenile.

Later, some amazing fast flying.

The parents have to eat too!

The adult male flies off.

The adult female rests on a ledge.

And we spot one of the juveniles resting –

So we turn our camera to a passing Dolphin –

It was late afternoon (about 5:15 pm) when the flying show really started.

Now it looks like another lesson is taking place. A parent brings in some food.

The chick is hungry.

The parent lets go of the food. It wants to chick to grab it mid air, but the chick fails.

So the parent dives down and grabs it.

It may been exchanged, but we didn’t see it.

Now for some more great flying –

Now both of the juveniles were resting.

It was now 6:18 pm and time for us to head for home. A very special encounter with Nature.
