A Nature Walk along Wolli Creek – 28 January 2024

Lydia had organised a morning walk along Wolli Creek and invited quite a few people to join  her. As an enticement, she put on an amazing feast of food  for everyone – at her house, along the way.

We met at Tempe Station, and then started walking up Wolli Creek. Crossing the Cooks River, we saw a number of Cormorants.

Little Pied Cormorant

Little Black Cormorants

Here isa a Laughing Kookaburra at Waterworth Park –

From Lydia’s deck – we could observe a lot of small birds –

Silvereye

Red-browed Finch

And after morning tea, we continued upstream.

Robber Fly

Common Crow Butterfly

And nearby we found the larvae of the Common Crow Butterfly. It eats toxins from the plant to make itself poisonous to birds that may want to eat it.

And here is a native Blue-banded Bee

We went through Turrella Reserve and walked up to the Grey-headed Flying Fox Camp –

And we continued to the rock climbing crag.

And then we re-traced our steps back downstream to Lydia’s house for part 2 of our feast.

Many thanks to Lydia for the invitation to join her on the morning.
