I was up early and at met the group at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station at 7:30 am for the Greenway Bird Survey along the Hawthorne Canal.

The weather was cool, but it was sunny at the station, and this meant some of the small birds were active. We were delighted to observe some Spotted Pardalotes.

We could hear some Superb Fairy-wrens, but they did not come out into good places for photos.
Along the lower path, very few birds were out. It was quite dark and cold. At Marion Street, we spotted a distant New Holland Honeyeater –

Along the canal, we saw some Superb Fairy-wrens, and also this White-browed Scrubwren –

As we crossed the footbridge over the canal, we spotted a number of larger birds. They were all enjoying the sun.

It had been a very good morning. After morning tea at the nearby cafe, I headed to Maroubra Beach and a visit to Malabar Headland.
