After the Greenway Bird Survey, I caught the light trail into the city, then changed to the light rail to South Sydney Juniors, then a bus to Maroubra Beach, where I met up with Sue. We were going to spend the day out on Malabar Headland.

Despite the rather late start, we had a great day, observing a pair of Peregrine Falcons, a Black-shouldered Kite and some Dolphins jumping out of the sea.

Near the National Park entrance, we spotted a sleeping Seal –

New Holland HoneyeaterÂ

Australasian Gannet

Great CormorantÂ

Out near Boora Point, we spotted one Peregrine Falcon perched on the cliffs –

It moved into a more sheltered position.

Then, the second Peregrine Falcon appeared.

And they both flew off……

A bit later one turned up again.

It landed back on the cliffs.

And the other appeared.

It had grabbed something from the bushes. Probably a bit of stick.

Then it did some nice fast display flying –

The orchid bird, the female, seemed impressed.

More fast fly byes.

We could hear them mating on a ledge out of our site, then they both flew off.
Then we saw some Dolphins –

Australasian Gannet

A very distant Humpback Whale was breeching –

The closer whales were just cruising past –

It was now well into the afternoon, so we stared to walk out. On the way out, we met up with Alana. We stopped and had a long chat.
Welcome Swallow

And as we all walked back to Maroubra Beach, near Dead Mans Gulch, we spotted a Black-shouldered Kite –

And then a second one appeared!

The Kites left the area.
Two Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos appeared and flew past.

Alana pointed out this feature. It appears to be a basalt intrusion (dyke) –

And then a Black-browed Albatross flew past –

It had been a very good day.
