Birdwood Gully – Orchids and Birds (But not much Fungi) – 11 July 2025

I travelled up to Springwood with Sue for a look down Birdwood Gully. We were hoping to see some fungi, but very little was out, and most of what we saw was in very poor condition. But, there were quite a few orchids out, and we also saw some birds.

Nodding Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis nutans

Cobra Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis grandiflora

Pixie Cap Orchid – Acianthus fornicatus

And now for some birds.

Eastern Spinebill

Eastern Yellow Robin

White-checked Honeyeater

And here is one fungus –

Cortinarius rotundisporus

We headed back to Sydney not long after lunch. This gave me time for a quick trip along part of Wolli Creek.
