I took part in the survey along the Hawthorne Canal section of The Greenway. This survey starts at 7:30 am at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station and goes to Hawthorne Light Rail Station.
We were lucky to observe a number of unusual birds on this survey.
It was relatively quiet at Taverners Hill. Here is a New Holland Honeyeater –
Lower down on the shared path we spotted two Brush Turkeys. Here is one –
A White-faced Heron was foraging along the canal.
Red Wattlebird
Near Marion Street, we were lucky to spot a Satin Bowerbird –
Australasian Figbirds
Further along, we spotted two Brown Goshawks flying very high above. Here is one –
And closer, was a Collared Sparrowhawk –
And roosting in a tree on the far side of the canal, we spotted a Nankeen Night Heron.
Masked Lapwing
As we were crossing the footbridge over the canal, a large group of Little Black Cormorants flew up the canal and landed upstream.
We finished with coffee at the Dog Park. It had been a good survey.
