Birds at Rookwood Necropolis – 4 October 2026

It had been a long while since i had visited Rookwood Necropolis, so I made an afternoon visit which turned out to be very worthwhile.

I visit the area near Serpentine Creek which has a good woodland that attracts many birds. I was hoping to see Scarlet Honeyeaters and I certainly did. I was also hoping to see Brown Goshawks, which nest in the area. I did get fleeting glimpse of one, but no photos. I did hear them calling and I think it’s likely they will breed in the area again.

Red Browed Firetail

Rufous Whistler

Scarlet Honeyeaters

These small birds are attracted by the flowering mistletoe.

Silvereye

Scarlet Honeyeaters

This one was looking for insects.

And another bright red bird – a Mistletoebird.
