Back to Sydney Park – 26 February 2020

Like the afternoon, the day before, I made another late trip to Sydney Park. This time I was a bit more successful.

Bailon’s Crake

Persistence paid off. I finally saw my first Crake – a Bailon’s Crake (Spottless Crakes have also been seen at Sydney Park). This was thanks to another bird watcher there – I think his name was Alain, show saw it first and pointed it out to me. It was skulking behind the reeds. Here are some more photos –

Here you can see it with a Latham’s Snipe on the right –

It was a shy reclusive bird and was not visible for long.

There was also a Buff-banded Rail

No sign of the Lewin’s Rail that others had seen the evening before.
