Goochs Crater Walk – 11 April 2024

Bob was back from a New Zealand holiday, and suggested a walk to visit Goochs Crater. We were hoping to see it still full of water after the recent heavy rain event. I had seen some photos taken recently on Facebook.

So Bob drove to Bell and we then set off along the track to the Crater. It was pleasant walking along the easy ridge.

There were nice views of pagodas and other rock formations.

We passed another party – Paul and Sue, who I knew from Springwood Bushwalking Club. They too, were hoping to see the Crater full of water. They told us two other bushwalkers had visited with paddle boards a few days earlier.

At the Wollangambe River, we found convenient log crossing.

Then some more easy and open ridge walking.

And at last, the descent to the crater. We had one more small creek to cross.

We then climbed up to the camp cave.

This is also an occupation site. It features a number of faint red ochre hand stencils.

I think we found at least six stencils.

We then climbed up to see Goochs Crater. We were somewhat disappointed to find all the  water had drained out.

But it is an interesting and beautiful spot to walk around. To see photos of the crater with water in it see this earlier post.

After lunch we then walked back the same way as we had come.

Despite the crater not being full of water, we had had a very pleasant walk.
