The Dry Canyon and The Glow Worm Tunnel 21-22 September 2024

A camping weekend had been organised for the weekend. It was a get together, camping overnight near the Dry Canyon on the Newnes Plateau. A big group met together for the evening around the campfire, but on both days, smaller groups did their own activities.

I traveled up with Roger, and after arriving at the campsite in the early afternoon, I joined Doug, Valerie, Wendy, Digi Dave and Sebastian for a walk down to the Dry Canyon.

On the way, we visited a cave to see some Aboriginal art. The cave features at least four hand stencils. Only one is easy to see with the unaided eye. The iDStretched version shows a lot more.

And now we are entering the upper section of The Dry Canyon –

And now in the lower constriction –

Back at the campsite, others had arrived and some great food was being prepared to share.

Sunday morning –

After breaking camp, I joined Roger, Valerie and Do for a trip through the Glow Worm Tunnel.

There has been considerable track work at the tunnel undertaken by NPWS. Here we approach the southern portal –

Once inside is a high standard path with a hand rail –

The hand rail is handy, because to see the glow worms you need to turn off your torch and let your eyes adjust. And you can then proceed through the tunnel using the hand rail. The only problem is when you collide with other people doing the same thing.

Here are some glow worms –

We then went down the creek a short distance.

And then back into the tunnel.

And more glow worms.

It had been a most enjoyable weekend, thanks to a great group of people coming along.
