Greenway Bird Survey – 13 May 2026

It was the time for local bird surveys. Tempe on the previous Saturday, Cooks River yesterday, and now the Hawthorne Canal section of The Greenway. The group met at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station at 7:30 am. It was relatively quiet there.

Here are some of the birds we saw –

Red Wattlebird

Pied Currawong

A White-faced Heron was hitting further down the canal –

And here is one of two Brush Turkeys

Here is a closer view of the White-faced Heron

Magpie Lark

Further along a Nankeen Night Heron was spotted roosting in a Casuarina. It was hard to get a good photo.

Another White-faced Heron

Grey Butcherbird

And some Common Mynas were having a squabble –

And, as usual, we finished with coffee at a nearby cafe.
