After attending the Tempe Bird survey, I travelled up to Long Reef for the afternoon. Despite the late start, the trip was very worthwhile.

When I arrived, three Osprey were around. One was perched in some roots on the south side of the headland –

Then another Osprey flew past –

The third Osprey was on the beach eating a fish.

It eventually flew off with the remains of the fish.

Pied Cormorant

Then an Osprey appeared and started hunting.

t didn’t get a fish.

But it did attract the attention of another Osprey, and an altercation broke out.

A bit later, an Osprey flew over.

It was looking for fish.

It very suddenly dived and hit the water fairly close, and then snuggled to get out.

It emerged without a fish.

So it resumed its hunting –

Another dive –

But agin, it missed the fish.

It seems to get a shock –

A White Bellied Sea Eagle appeared.

And then things went quiet, so I decided to head home.
