I went on another visit to the Northern Beaches to again photograph Ospreys at Long Reef. I was there for a few hours, but despite several Ospreys being present, things turn out to be fairly quiet – at least in terms of them catching fish, so I left early and walked to some coastal cliffs to photograph a family of Peregrine Falcons.

First, some Ospreys at Long Reef. When I arrived things looked promising.

The Osprey flew around a bit, then landed on a perch near the headland. Itstayed there a long time…..

A Nankeen Kestrel was hunting nearby, so I moved closer and grabbed a few photos.

I climbed up to near the lookout. Now there was a second perched Osprey.

And the first one –

And a White Belled Sea Eagle flew over.

In the golf course was this White Faced Heron –

At the cliffs, an adult female Peregrine Falcon was on guard duty, protecting her young.

I waited to see if any chicks would appear. One eventually did.

The mother started getting a bit restless. It probably didn’t want me around.

It flew around in a circle and landed back on the cliffs.

So I kept photographing. I was using a long focal length lens and was a fair way from the Falcon’s scrape (nest), but probably not far enough way for the parents to feel happy. So I died not to stay too long. But even though my stay was short, I did see some amazing scenes as all three chicks appeared.

Mum kept watch.
