Birds in Wolli Creek Regional Park – 7 October 2026

I had recently seen other bird watchers’ observations of some nice birds near the Bray Avenue Wetlands in Wolli Creek Regional Park. I knew there was at least one Sacred Kingfisher, as we had seen one a few days earlier on the Wolli Creek bird survey. But we had been across the other side of Hartill Law Avenue from the Kingfisher. I was meeting Valerie around lunchtime at the Museum in the city to see a photos exhibition. So I thought it worthwhile having look at the Bray Avenue area first.

My short visit was well worthwhile. I did see some quite nice birds, including a flock of Scarlet Honeyeaters which are rare in the inner west. Here are some photos –

I heard the calls and then spotted two Sacred Kingfishers.

A pair nested in this area last year. I hope they nest here again.

Black Faced Cuckoo Shrike

I heard some Satin Bowerbirds and spotted a bower.

New Holland Honeyeater

This is what attracted the Honeyeaters – Mistletoe. It was growing on some of the Casuarinas.
