Back to the Powls at the Botanic Gardens – 7 October 2026

I met up with Valerie at the Australian Museum in Sydney where we viewed the finalists for the Natural History Photo Competition. This was very worthwhile with many great photos on display. We then made our way to the Botanic Gardens to see if we could spot the Powerful Owl family once again. We did easily.

Here are some photos –

We could only see one parent.

The Owlet being white, was easier to spot.

The owlet turned around.

So we moved to the other side of the tree.

The owlet did what it was supposed to do – sleeping.

But soon woke up again.

And then we wandered around the gardens a bit more.

On our last visit, this Dusky Moorhen nest was full of eggs. Have they all hatched or have they been eaten?

The Moorhen was attacking this Ibis. Had the Ibis eaten some eggs?

The Magpie Lark was still sitting on its nest.
