The Grand Canyon – 16 December 2017

I was heading up the mountains with Wendy to attend the SUBW Christmas Walk to the Coxs River. Since it was a very hot day, we thought it would be nice to visit the Grand Canyon at Blackheath before walking to the river.

We headed down the track at Neates Glen and soon reached the abseil point. A large SUBW party led by Ashley had almost finished the abseil. By the time we had got our harnesses on they were all down.

We completed the abseil and then continued down through the canyon. I had a camera and tripod, but the lighting in the canyon was too harsh for serious canyon photography.

As we proceeded through the canyon, we caught up with the SUBW party –

Lower down the canyon, the sun went behind a cloud and it was immediately much better for photography. I grabbed a few hand held shots, and then set the camera up on the tripod, but by that time the direct sun had returned, so I packed up the camera.

We reached the final swim in the canyon and met up again with the SUBW group. We then walked to the end of the canyon, got changed and walked out via the tourist track back to Wendy’s car. After lunch in Blackheath we headed down to Megalong for the SUBW Coxs River Walk.

More photos of the canyon are online here on my website.
