Tempe Wetlands – Birds – 10 November 2018

I spent a pleasant morning joining in with the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird survey.

It was fairly quiet at the wetlands – there did not seem to be any visible waterbird chicks. But not far along the path, we did spot some Wattlebird chicks.  The parents were nearby.

Further long, we watched a Spotted Pardalote bring food down to its nest –

In the third pond, we could see an Australian Grebe swimming. We speculated if it had a baby hidden in the feathers on its back (which is what they often do). It didn’t seem to.

In the pool. one of the members spotted a frog attached to a reed. It was a Dwarf Tree Frog.

Nearby was a a Reed Warbler –

And a family of Superb Fairy-wrens, which included a very young chick –

And some of the other birds –

As usual, the group finished with morning tea in Tempe Reserve. After this I cycled home along the Cooks River. On the way, I looked at the Tawny Frogmouth nest near Younger Ave. It seems to be identical to what I saw early in September. I am not sure what is going on?
