It had been a wet weekend – other activities had been cancelled. But on Sunday morning the weather didn’t look too bad so I headed up to Hornsby and walked down to the Great North Walk Track near the Fishponds.
My main objective was to spend some time photographing some of the creek features that I had seen on a previous walk from Thornleigh to Hornsby. The area near the “Spa” – a creekbed feature in Waitara Creek was particularly interesting. I was hoping that recent rain would have put the creek up and made things a bit different.
Well as it turned out – all the creeks were up – and too high to cross. So my route was to walk down to the creek and then back up the same way.
I was hoping for some soft lighting for my photographs. Instead – when I got to Waitara Creek – it was quite sunny. Too sunny for the photos I was after. So, being unable to cross, I had no place to get to, so I could afford to be patient and wait. This proved worthwhile.
I spent a few hours observing the landscape. As well as the creek – there was a family of water dragons nearby that all seemed very friendly and keen to be photographed and later I noticed a tortoise ambling along the bank of Berowra Creek.
In the early afternoon, there was another quite heavy rain storm. I sheltered in a rock overhangs near the creek – a good refuge. My walk finished with a steamy walk back up the hill through the Blue Gums back to Hornsby.
More photos are on my website here.
I live on Waitara Creek. Great photos David!
