Lake Eckersley Walk – 30 January 2019

More hot weather! I was keen to get outdoors, but didn’t want to do anything too strenuous, so though a short walk from Heathcote to Lake Eckersley on the Woronora River may be nice.

I certainly did have a pleasant day. After catching a train to Heathcote, I walked down the street and through the Scout Camp to the Friendly Track. I followed this down to the Pipeline Access Road.

Along the way, I photographed a few birds. Most of them were in one spot.

I first stopped at the Mirrang Pool for a short swim. The water was very pleasant.

I then continued along the Pipeline Road, past The Battery Causeway – the ford where the road crosses Heathcote Creek. The pool there looked very inviting, but I didn’t stop. I continued on a short way and then down the track to Lake Eckersley.

The Battery Pool

Lake Eckersley is a huge pool, and it was a great place to have a swim and a relaxing lunch.  No one was around and it was very quiet, except for the sound of cicadas and the squawking a few birds.

The ants seemed very active however. And I had to move a few times to keep away from them.

I then, reluctantly, had a final swim and packed up my gear and started walking back. This time walking past The Battery Causeway, the temptation to have a swim was too much. After putting my gear down on a shady ledge, I headed into the pool. I hadn’t swum here before. It was a nice pool and the water seemed pretty clean.

Then, it was time to head back to Heathcote.
