Empire Pass Walk – 6 April 2013

I returned to the waterfalls of north Lawson on another photographic trip. After a week of fairly wet weather I was hoping for high water levels – but I was disappointed. Levels were low and I had to work hard to some photographs.

EP 2

At least this time, I could cross the creeks easily! I started walking from Lawson and headed down first to Fairy Falls. Then down the steps into Dantes Glen and St Michaels Falls.

EP 3 EP 1

Next was the track around to Empire Pass all the way to Frederica Falls. On the way I detoured down an old track to Lucys Glen and a nearby canyon. Both were interesting places.

EP 3 EP 7 EP 6 EP 5 EP 4

Frederica Falls would have been better with a lot more water going over it and also the fire road at the top is not very pleasant.

EP 8 EP 9

From these falls, I followed an easy track back to Lawson through a thicket of banksia.

EP 10

It was a worthwhile day out in the bush to a place worth returning to.

More photos are on my website here.

    Hi,

Very nice photos. Is there any map that how to go to the Lucys Glen?

    Thank you,

I don’t think the track is marked on any map – but there is an old track that goes down to the creek and then back up to rejoin the track further along. It is very overgrown and hard to follow is spots. The route to Lucys Glen goes from that track. There may have been a track once, but we could find no signs of it. And its a bit of a rough scramble to get to the waterfall – but worth the effort if there is a good flow – e.g. after rain. You can see the creek on the topo map.
