Birds at Tempe, Barton Park and the Cooks River – 9 November 2019

This was an interesting bird photography morning. First I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird survey. Then, after morning tea, I cycled to Barton Park and Landing Lights Wetland, and then went home via the Cooks River to check out the nesting Tawny Frogmouths.

It was fairly quiet at the Tempe Wetlands. I spotted a distant Nankeen Kestrel

There seems to be quite a few nests and baby birds. Here is a Magpie Lark nest –

This Red Wattlebird seems to be collecting small moths to take back to a nest.

The Tempe Birdos finish with morning tea at Tempe Reserve. This is a good time for chatting and socialising. I then cycled down to Barton Park and went to Landing Lights Wetland. There were a lot of Pied Stilts with chicks –

There were also some Fairy Martins flying around. They had some nest under the eaves of the building at the Wetlands.

And some more Pied Stilts –

One of the Tempe Birdos, Mark,  had told me about the nesting success of a pair of Tawny Frogmouths at Gough Whitlam Park. On my way home I soon found their nest. The chicks were with one parent.

Nearby was the other parent.

I then cycled down to Younger Avenue. No change. One bird on the nest and the other nearby. Perhaps they have non-viable eggs?
