I had seen some photos recently taken of an Owlet Nightjar that was living in a tree hollow at the Botanic Gardens at Mt Annan. I knew that these gardens were a good to observe and photograph birds, so decided to pay a visit.
I caught a train to Cambelltown and then a bus to the stop just past the park entrance. From there it was a short walk to the lake with the bird hide. I spent most of the day in this one small area and was rewarded with a variety of birds.
I soon located the tree that the Owlet Nightjar had been seen, but it looks like it has been driven away by some Red-rumped Parrots. This was a shame, but there were so many other nice birds around that I still had a very interesting, successful and enjoyable day. Being around for lost of the day was also a good choice, as some of the birds only made an appearance in either the morning or the afternoon for short periods of time.
During my visit, there were also other bird watchers and photographers present, including Daniele, who I had met previously at Barton Park, and Ellen and her daughter Amber who I knew from bushwalking.
