I was out for some more exercise and again I carried my camera to record any birds I saw. This time I started off at Barton Park. It was fairly quiet at the main pond in the Landing Lights Wetland.
I did see a Royal Spoonbill in the concrete lined creek nearby.
In the pond were very few birds. Here is a Pacific Black Duck –
I looked around for other birds – but there seemed few around. So I climbed up to the high level with the sporting fields. There were a few New Holland Honeyeaters –
And further along the usual Superb Fairy-wrens –
I then walked down to Muddy Creek. Suddenly a Striated Heron, that had been perched on a boat nearby took off and flew away.
It landed on another of the moored boats, but didn’t stay there for long.
I then walked back to the main pond of landing Lights Wetland. The Spoonbill had settled in.
I noticed a White-faced Heron in one corner of the pond. I was wondering what it was doing, so moved closer. It was hunting, but hunting for flies. And it was quiet successful at snapping them with its beak.
Now there are two close to it –
It grabs one.
I was about to leave, when I spotted a Chestnut Teal on the boardwalk. I watched it, and saw it was encouraging its chicks to climb up onto the boardwalk.
I keep watching. Both parents were there, escorting at least 8 checks. The chicks were very young and not very good at walking. A lot of them kept falling over.
I then caught a bus up he road to Tempe. I visited the Reserve, the wastelands and the Wetlands. Not that many birds were active. Here are a few – a Welcome Swallow, A Laughing Kookaburra, a Bulbul and a Grey Fantail –
