After two previous very good trips to Barton Park where on each I had seen two raptors, I thought I would go again to Barton Park and see if any where still around.
Not long after I arrived I did spot the Brown Goshawk. But it flew off very quickly. I got a few shots.
I would see it a few more times during my visit. But it was very shy – often flying away before I could even point my camera towards it.
There were not very many birds in the wetlands. I did see a couple of White-faced Herons.
This one starting snapping at flies like I have seen one do before.
And then it caught something more substantial.
I am not sure what it caught. A small eel or a large worm?
The wasps were back, flying around the small log I have seen them before.
Some of the other birds at Barton Park. A Superb Fairy-wren –
A trio of Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos flew over. Here are two of them –
And a Red-browed Finch –
I saw the Brown Goshawk perched nicely on a high cable near the wetlands. As I approached I saw it was being harassed by a pair of Willie Wagtails. It flew off before I could get ready.
I then made my way to Tempe, and visited the Reserve, then the wastelands near the container terminal. There I encountered some nice Golden-headed Cisticolas.
And a Superb Fairy-wren perched on the same fence –
I did a quick walk through the wetlands without seeing too much.
It really is something seeing the wagtails harrassing raptors or currawongs ten + times their weight!
