I travelled up to Long Reef on the Northern Beaches for hopefully some more Osprey photography. I had quite a good day.
When I arrived, I spotted an Osprey perched on the south side of the headland.
I sent a fair while waiting to see if it would take off. It didn’t, but a second Osprey arrived.
I went down to the rock platform, and found it flying off with a fish.
Then another Osprey appeared.
It was hunting for fish.
This dive was unsuccessful. I then was joined by the one that had been perched on the cliffs earlier.
They flew off, then things went quiet, for a while.
Sooty OystercatcherÂ
And an Osprey returned.
Diving for a fish –
No good.
Second go –
Again it pulled out.
But it was too close to some Caspian Terns. An interesting skirmish took place.
Then a Silver Gull joined in.
It was war on two fronts.
Wisely, the Osprey decided to depart.
A bit later, another (or the same) Osprey arrived at started hunting.
Unsuccessful.
I watched the Osprey for a while, then lost it. But then it suddenly appeared quite close with a fish.
I left Long Reef and made a brief visit to the sea cliffs where I had recently photographed a family of Peregrine Falcons. I didn’t stay too long, but only saw one – and adult high in the air. Probably on guard duty.
