It was nice to be able to visit the Zoo again. This was my first visit since the lockdown. Some new animals – a baby giraffe. And the return of the Lions. The new Safari section was now open.
I had to book my visit. Asa Zoo Friend this was easy to do, and just had to nominate a day for the visit rather than a time slot. When I arrived all the Zoo seemed to be open.
Early on I visited the Safari section. I could see the baby Giraffe. And there were Zebras in the same enclosure.
The lions however were asleep and far away. I could just see one of them. I went back an hour or two later – and both lions were out of site. But on my third visit I had luck. I had seen a staff member hide a lump of meat in a tree. The lions were then absent, but hey keepers then allowed them back in, and one of them was active hunting for the meat.
The Fenix Foxes were to of site during all my visits. And their enclosure is covered with glass that seems to always reflect the Sun making looking in difficult.
Here are some of the other animals –
The bird aviaries seemed more active than usual. Here is a selection of birds –
I had tried to go to the bird show at noon, but it was full by 11:50 am when I arrived there. So I made sure I was early for the 3 pm show. This is a good place to practice bird photography, in particular birds in flight.
It was nice to see all the animals again. I look forward to my next visit. On this trip, I did not visit the Reptile House and the Seals and Penguins. I had tried to see the Nocturnal House – but it was closed and appears to be being rebuilt.
