It had been raining heavily in Royal National Park. I thought it may be worth heading down and seeing some of the creeks and waterfalls.
I got in touch with Digi Dave and he was keen to join me.
We started off by visiting National Falls. This set of waterfalls lies very close from the road at Waterfall to Otford. The town of Waterfall is probably name dafter these falls. The first fall can be viewed from a lookout near the road and also there is a set of steps going down to the base of the falls. You get a far better view of the falls from the base and also you can see some impressive cascades. After the rain, there was a lot of water going over the falls. There would have been a lot more the day before dying the big storm!
Also from this track, you can look down the much higher lower fall. I went back up to the road and walk down it about 100 m and sure enough found an old track heading down. It was not signposted but it did have some good looking old stone steps. I went down – and you do get a better view of the falls and the long cave behind them. But it is still quite awkward to get good photos.
We then went to the car park for Lady Carrington Drive and walk down to the turn off to Bola Creek. I was hoping or high water levels and the chance to see some fungi in the rainforest.
At the crossing, I took my shoes off and waded across. The creek was quite high but the crossing was easy. Then we headed upstream to where the track crosses the creek again close to the junction with a major tributary. Bola Creek is very attractive here.
As well as seeing the creek – there was a lot of fungi out. On the way up the track, we had not noticed too much out, but once you spot some fungi out and then set up the tripod and camera, you tend to spot a lot more, and then even more.
We spent several hours photographing and could have gone on for linger except for a very sudden cloudburst. Another thunderstorm! Very heavy rain for about half an hour or so. Enough to force us to pack up and head back to the car.
This was a short but very worthwhile excursion. More photos can be viewed on my website here.
