I had never been to these waterfalls before. To visit them is quite a delightful walk along good tracks. I accessed the falls from the track at Oaklands Road.
There has been some trackwork done on the track – including wooden boardwalks in places. This is good as the best time to visit these falls is during or after a period of rain.
The first waterfall on my route was Horseshoe Falls. Sure enough – the falls are enclosed within a horseshoe shaped valley and there is a cave behind the falls. There are a several old tracks radiating from the falls.
I continued down the main track to Oakland Falls. These are a similar size to Horseshoe Falls and these ones also have a cave behind the falls.
There was also a nice selection of fungi also on display.
I followed a lower track from Oakland Falls to Burgess Falls. This follows the creek to a junction then a short way up the second creek to another amphitheatre. Here lies Burgess Falls. Despite the rain – there was not too much flow over these falls.
From Burgess Falls there is a track to Winbourne Road – the other access point, and also a higher level track back to Oakland Falls. I took this higher level track.
This was a short, attractive walk. I think it is best done after heavy rain when the waterfalls are at their best and Autumn is a good time to see fungi in the rainforest gullies.
More photos can be seen on my website here.
The most remarkable feature of Horshoe Falls is the dazzling display of Glow worms on the horshoe shaped cavern overhang which of course have to been after dark. I suggest a walk in daylight to check out the track before going at night. Park on grass.
Is horseshoe falls still open ?
As far as I know it still is. You can always check on the Blue Mts Council website.
