I was visiting my sister and brother in law at Hazelbrook, and during the afternoon, I visited the waterfall walk near their place. I had packed my camera. As well as the waterfalls, I was looking out for birds and orchids.
It did not take my long to spot an orchid, a Bonnet Orchid (Cryptosylis erecta), on the way down to Horseshoe Falls.
And then I arrived at Horseshoe Falls.
I was now in rainforest. There were plenty of birds that I could hear, but a lot that I could not see. Here is a female Golden Whistler –
And a bit further along the track were a lot more Bonnet Orchids.
The next waterfall is Oakland Falls.
And below this, more rainforest. I could hear a Golden Whistler, and it came close.
I also saw a Rufous Fantail, but it was too dark in the forest for a good photo.
The last waterfall is Burgess Falls –
As I walking back on the higher level track (not in rainforest), there was another Golden Whistler –
And also another Rufous Fantail. I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to stay still long enough in an open area for a good photos of it sticking its tail up.
And some of the other small birds nearby. A Striated Thornbill –
A White-browed Scrubwren –
Back near the turn off to Horseshoe Falls I spotted some nice Large Tongue Orchids (Cryptostylis subulata)
And higher up in the creek, a Brown Gerygone was having a wash –
And back at my sister’s place – a Water Dragon was sunning itself –
Wonderful photos, David. I have done that walk with your sister!!
