I returned to Lane Cove Bushland Park yesterday, without any high hopes of seeing much out. It has been quite dry for much of May.
As I walked into this small park – there did not seem to be much out. It was easy to find some long lived bracket fungi and some other dull fungi – but what this park is famous for is its colourful hygrocybes.
In the middle of the park – where several tracks meet up and cross the creek – I did find some nice red coral fungi. And as I set up my camera and started taking photos I noticed more and more out nearby. Things were not too bad!
Most of the fungi I saw was very close to the track – in the areas without too much leaf litter. But it was hard to see! You had to look very carefully! I think most visitors to the park would have walked past without noticing it.
More photos are online on my website here, with my attempts at identifying them.
One feature of Lane Cove Bushland Park is the presence of Hygrocybe lanecovensis which seems to be fairly similar to Hygrocybe miniata. Some of yours look similar to photos of H. lanecovensis, but I have no idea what the criteria are for identification.
