Cooks River and Barton Park Birds – 8 October 2021

After the bird survey, I went home for an early lunch, then cycled out to Barton Park via the Cooks River.

Along the Cooks River, I was on the lookout for a Willie Wagtail nest that Valerie had told me about. The nest had been spotted earlier by Simin, from the Mudlarks Cooks River Bird Group, and she had shown it to Valerie. Valerie’s direction were good and it was easy to find.

There was a Magpie Lark nest in the same tree.

At Barton Park, I first had a look at the Pied Stilts.

Early on, a Brown Goshawk cruised past.

There were also some passing Rainbow Lorikeets and they overtook the Goshawk.

Back to the Pied Stilts

The two nests seem OK.

And some of the other birds at Landing Lights Wetland. First, a pair of Chestnut Teals

And a White-faced Heron was just departing –

On the far side I spotted a Grey Goshawk perched in a tree.

When it eventually flew off, it went away from me.

Here is a Grey Fantail

And here is one of the many Golden-headed Cisticolas that I could hear calling.

One last bird near the Wetland – a Silvereye

On the ride home, I had another look at theĀ  Tawny Frogmouth nest in Gough Whitlam Park. It seems to be OK.
