Birds at the Central Coast Wetlands – 28 August 2022

It had been a while  since I had been to these Wetlands at the old Pioneer Dairy at Wyong. I had been meaning to make another visit for a while, but had not got around to it for one reason or another. This visit turned out to be relatively quiet. I saw some nice birds – but nothing special.

I walked to the wetlands from Wyong Station, and this has one advantage – about half of the walk is around two sides of the wetlands and you can spot birds that you may not see at the usual spots.

As I walked in, I saw a group of Laughing Kookaburras

And I also spotted this Tawny Grassbird

And I saw a few White-breasted Woodswallows

arriving at the pavilion, I scanned the wetlands through binoculars but could not see any unusual birds. In the far distance I could see a Whistling Kite perched on top of a nest. Is it a chick’s head I can see?

Some closer birds. A Pied Cormorant

Australasian Darter

White-faced Heron

Pied Butcherbird

Straw-necked Ibis

And now for some of the birds in the forest. A Golden Whistler

Grey Fantail

Brown Gerygone

Golden Whistler

Back at the wetlands. Australasian Darters

Chestnut Teals

Red-rumped Parrot

Rainbow Lorikeet

Galah

Great Egret

Superb Fairy-wren

Laughing Kookaburra with frog

And some more of there distant Whistling Kite
