Birds at Sydney Park and Barton Park – 16 October 2022

I spent a nice day visiting two local sites. I started at Sydney Park and then caught a bus down the road to Barton Park.

My main aim Sydney Park was to try and spot a Powerful Owl that had been roosting there recently. I did not manage to find the owl, but in he process of looking for it, I did spot a Tawny Frogmouth on its nest.

When I arrived, I saw the Black Swans and their cygnet in the Island Pond.

There were also quite a few Turtles.

And a Magpie Lark was sitting on a nest.

I spotted this Australasian Figbird eating a fig –

Here you can see a Australian Reed-Warbler amongst the reeds –

In the large pond was Australasian Grebe on its floating nest –

Then hear the depot, I spotted the Tawny Frogmouth on its nest.

The nest was in different place to where it had been last year. There seemed to be two chicks.

I then bumped into Harold, a regular visitor to the park who has an interest in birds, and he showed me the female, perched in a different tree nearby.

Then it was time to head to Barton Park. The fires bird I saw was a White-faced Heron flying over.

The Landing Lights Wetland was fairly quite with a few Chestnut Teals

Walking up the path near the canal, I spotted a Golden-headed Cisticola

Climbing up to the old stadium, I could see all the Lantana around one side had been cleared. I understand the stadium will soon me demolished.

And back down at the Spring St Canal, the new bridge is now in place.

In the old sporting fields, I saw an unfamiliar bird fly over. It was a Pacific Golden Plover.

And I spotted two Double-barred Finches, Here is one –

I then went down to the Cooks River. Here is a Little Black Cormorant flying past –
