This was a very busy day. I later intended to make another visit to Malabar Headland, but first I got up early and walked down to the Cooks River, to join the Mudlarks at 7 am, at he Lang Street Bridge, for their monthly birds survey.
As we met up near the bridge, there was mist rising up from the river.
This month the group surveyed upstream – walking up to the Boat Harbour and the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetland.
Here are some of the birds we saw –
Here is a juvenile Australian Magpie waiting to be fed –
Australasian Figbird
Grey Butcherbirds – adult and juvenile –
Tawny Frogmouth on nest –
Pacific Black Duck chicks –
Red Wattlebird
Superb Fairy-wrens
Dusky Moorhen with chicks –
Little Corella
Another Grey Butcherbird –
At the footbridge near Sugar Mill, we saw the Magpie Lark nest is again occupied. The nest is built in the bridge substructure.
On the bridge, you can look down through gaps in the planks and see inside the nest –
Some new arrivals at the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands. Pacific Black Duck and chicks –
Australian White Ibis
Chestnut Teal
Dusky Moorhen with chicks –
Little Pied Cormorant
Continuing down the river, Simin spotted this Tawny Frogmouth –
And here is a Rainbow Lorikeet –
As usual, the group finished with morning tea and a chat.
