Sassafras Gully Fungi – 10 May 2024

After a great day, the day before at Springwood, I thought it would be worthwhile heading down Sassafras Gully on the south side of Springwood to see how the fungi was there. I found a fair bit out, but not as much as I had found in Birdwood Gully. I thought a lot of the forest floor looked very waterlogged, and it may need more time for fungi to appear.

On this trip, I entered the gully via the track down from the end of Sassafras Gully Road, and went as far as Glenbrook Creek, and I later returned via the Wiggins Track.

Here is some of the fungi I found –

Ramaria sp.

Austroboletus lacunosis

Postia sp.

This one was large – about 10 cm across, but felt tough and waxy, so it may be Cuphophyllus austropratensis

In an area on the track that had been disturbed by a landslide over year ago, I found a lot of orange and yellow cups/disks. The yellow and yellow ones are different species of the Aleuria aurantia group.

Psathyrella echinata

Aleuria aurantia group and Plectania campylospora

Plectania campylospora

Aleuria aurantia group

Hygrocybe sp.

Humidicutis mavis

Tremellodendropsis pusio

Microglossum viride

Clavulinopsis amoena

Hygrocybe sp.

Cuphophyllus aurantiopallens

Hygrocybe sp.

Hygrophorus involutus

Clavulinopsis amoena

Cortinarius rotundisporus

Tremella sp.

Rickenella fibula

Ramariopsis pulchella

Clavaria tenuipes and Ramariopsis pulchella

Hygrocybe batesii

Ramaria sp.

Russula sp.

Pluteus lutescens

Rhodocollybia eucalyptorum

Gliophorus graminicolor

Cortinarius sp.

Perhaps Gliophorus viridis

Hypholoma sp.

Cortinarius sp.

Perhaps Boletellus badiovinosus

Cortinarius sp.

Mycena sp.

Phellodon niger
