Wendy had organised a picnic day at Oatley Park and invited a group of friends along to share food, and then enjoy the park.
Along for the picnic day were Wendy, Martin and Steffy, Digi Dave, Keith, Don, John and Chuin Nee and their two boys Jasper and Seby, and myslef. We all had a great day.
After claiming a picnic table in a quiet section of the park, some of us visited the Adventure Park section. Seby and John enjoyed sliding down the giant pipe.
I think this Grey Butcherbird wanted too share in our picnic food –
The Laughing Kookaburra certainly wanted some party food.
Nearby were some Crimson Rosellas. Here is one –
Laughing Kookaburra
Grey Butcherbird
Now is jasper’s turn for the pipe –
We then did a walk around some of the tracks in the park. I was on the lookout for birds and orchids.
Red Wattlebird
Powerful Owl
The owl had a Ring-tail Possum –
And some orchids –
Pixie Cap Orchid – Acianthus fornicatus
Nodding Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis nutans
Caladenia sp. Orchid
Wendy did well spotting this Ring-tail Possum asleep in the canopy of fairy small tree.
On the boardwalk in the mangroves –
Australian White Ibis
Caladenia sp. Orchid
on the power mudflats pot Lime Kiln Bay there were lots of White-faced Herons. I counted 17.
Royal Spoonbill
And we finished our walk by visiting Oatley Castle –
Thanks to Wendy for organising this very pleasant outing.
