A Few Local Birds – Cooks River and Barton Park – 28 March 2025

The weather was not the best – with some rain, but I ventured out after the rain stopped for a walk along part of the Cooks River, then I caught a bus to Barton Park. I was on the lookout for birds, but perhaps due to the rain, it was relatively quiet. Certainly quiet compared to other recent visits to these places.

Here are some of the birds I saw along the Cooks River.

Australasian Darter (male)

At the Striated Heron nest, I soon spotted there two chicks. This time, there were together and quite hard to get clear photos of.

No Sacred Kingfishers or Tawny Frogmouths this visit.

Crested Pigeon

Australasian Darter (female)

Little Pied Cormorant

Willie Wagtail

Magpie Lark

It catches a small caterpillar –

And this Grey Butcherbird also has an insect –

And from the bridge crossing the Cooks River, some Welcome Swallows

Now at Barton Park.

In the Spring St Canal – a White-faced Heron.

Red-browed Finch

New Holland Honeyeater

White-faced Heron

Little Pied Cormorant

Another White-faced Heron

This visit, there were no Pied Stilts, and no Black-fronted Dotterels in the pond at Landing Lights Wetland. With more rain on the way, I headed for home.
