Mudlarks Cooks River Bird Survey – 13 August 2024

Up early in the morning, I walked down to the Cooks River to join the Mudlarks for their monthly bird survey. This month the group surveyed downstream from the Lang Street Bridge to Marrickville Golf Club and back on the other side (the Wave Rock Circuit).

Here are some of the birds we saw –

Masked Lapwings

Noisy Miners

Magpie Lark

Eastern Rosella

Silver Gull

Australasian Figbirds

Dusky Moorhen

A White-faced Heron was flying high overhead –

When it suddenly decided to loose some altitude –

Australian Magpie

Grey Butcherbird

A Dusky Moorhen in the Dibble Waterhole –

Australasian Figbird

Laughing Kookaburra

It was joined by a second one –

And then they were harassed by Noisy Miners

The Kookaburras just laughed at the Noisy Miners.

We finished with morning tea at Ewen Park. Many thanks once again to Jennifer for organising this.

After this, I walked upstream with Simin and Roger. Here are a few more birds –

Currawong being harassed by Noisy Miners

Grey Teals

Red Wattlebirds

Pacific Black Ducks

Australian Swamphen

And a Striated Heron was flying upstream –
