I went by myself for a short walk along part of the Cooks River – from Illawarra Road to Gough Whitlam Park and back. I was particularly after photos of the local Sacred Kingfishers. And this trip I was quite successful.

I had been along the River, three days earlier on a walk with Sue and Valerie, and we had seen some grea birds, including two Satin Bower Birds, but we had not seen and Kingfishers.
Walking down the River, there were the usual birds drying their wings.

I then spotted a Sacred Kingfisher flying upstream. It turned around and flew back downstream and then over to the far side. Another bird photographer, Michael, had also been watching it, and he told me there were two around. I continued on towards Gough Whitlam Park where I hoped to see more.
Magpie Lark

I had luck spotting a Sacred Kingfisher at Gough Whitlam Park. It was perched in the mangroves on the side of the River.

I carefully watched the kingfisher, and was able to get a bit closer.

It had dived down and caught a crustacean.

A Sacred Kingfisher then appeared.

This one appears to be a different Sacred Kingfisher –
