Local Tawny Frogmouths – Update – 16 October 2024

I visited some of the local Tawny Frogmouths during the afternoon.

I stared at Morton Park on Canterbury Road. I spotted both adult Tawny Frogmouths perched close to each other in a tree. Previously, I had seen on on a nest, so I assume their nest has failed.

Next, I caught a bus to Canterbury, and then started walking down the Cooks River.

At The Boat Harbour – I spotted a Tawny Frogmouth on a nest –

The second of the pair is perched very close.

I got talking to Barney who lives nearby, and two of his friends. They told me they had just seen the parent on the nest feeding a chick. Good news!

Next stop was Ewen Park. The Tanwy in still on its nest high in a tree –

And last stop was at the Cricket Nets area. I spotted an adult Tawny Frogmouth on its nest, but when I looked form the other side, I could see a chick watching me –
