Wolli Creek Fungi – 5 April 2016

I’ve been on a few recent trip down the Two Valleys Track along Wolli Creek waiting for the fungi to come out – without any success. This visit was at least a little better. There had been some rain in the valley a few days before.

I started out from Bexley North and walked right down the valley to where the creek joins the Cooks River at Tempe.

What was noticeable on this visit were the large number of boletes that were out. Of at least four different species.

There were also a lot of hard to identify “little brown mushrooms” of one sort or another.

Also notable, was the complete absence of flying foxes. It looks like they have moved to a winter camp? They had been here all year before, but it is common for them two live in two camps depending on the season. I did spot a huge leopard slug – about 12 cm long. I have previously seen them feeding on the fungi.

More photos of the fungi I observed together with my attempts at identification are online here.
