Mudlarks Cooks River Bird Survey – 14 January 2025

I joined the Mudlarks for their monthly bird survey along the Cooks River. This month the survey was the upstream loop from the Lang St Bridge.

Here are some of the birds we saw –

Channel-billed Cuckoos

Dusky Moorhen

Chestnut Teals

Red Wattlebird

Laughing Kookaburra

Superb Fairy-wren

Willie Wagtails

Superb Fairy-wren

Magpie Larks

Great Cormorant

In the middle of the photo below is part of a large eel that was in Cup and Saucer Creek

Chestnut Teal

Pacific Black Duck

Dusky Moorhen chick –

King Parrots

These possums had burst out of their box –

Little Pied Cormorant

Eastern Rosella

Willie Wagtail

Pacific Koels

 

Masked Lapwing

Australasian Figbird

Laughing Kookaburras

The survey ended with morning tea in Ewen Park. After that, a few of us walked upstream to the cricket nets and soon found the family of Tawny Frogmouths.

And nearby was a Grey Butcherbird
