Cape Baily Walk – 13 January 2025

Valerie, Sue and myself had been planning a walk, and due to a number of factors we decided to visit the cliffs at Kurnell in Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

We had been out on these cliffs in October last year – and that walk had been a great trip with a number of raptors seen (Nankeen Kestrels, A Sea Eagle, A Peregrine Falcon and a Black-shouldered Kite), a great view of some dolphins, and a magnificent display of Flannel Flowers.

This trip was good but a great quieter. We had hot weather, and we started from Potter Point – out to the lighthouse at Cape Baily, then north to Blue Hole Hap. Then we returned the same way.

Not far from the start, we spotted a Nankeen Kestrel

A bit further are some great sandstone formations –

And the cliffs are special.

Superb Fairy-wren

While having lunch, we spotted a very distant White-bellied Sea Eagle

And another, or perhaps the same, Nankeen Kestrel

And another White-bellied Sea Eagle. This one had a fish in its talons.

This had been another nice day in the bush. Many thanks to Valerie for driving down and back.
